Nursing and midwifery in Western Australia

Celebrating over 50 years registration

During International Nurses and Midwives Week a celebratory event was also held to pay tribute to our older nurses and midwives.

In 2010, a Nursing and Midwifery Office-sponsored study looked at factors which might increase the retention of older nurses in the workforce. One of the study outcomes underscored the importance of recognition in retaining older nurses and midwives in the workforce.

Inspired by this finding, the Nursing and Midwifery Office hosted an inaugural event in 2011 to demonstrate recognition for the WA nurses and midwives registered for more than 50 years for their long-standing practice and commitment.

The 2012 celebratory event honoured 25 more nurses and midwives.

The Nursing and Midwifery Office would like to thank the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia for their support of this event.
