Returning to nursing or midwifery

How to return to nursing or midwifery – refresh your skills

Nursing and midwifery refresher programs have been designed for ENs, RNs and midwives who have been out of the clinical setting for a while, but are still registered with the NMBWA, and are considering returning. The aim is to provide you with the opportunity to brush up on your skills in a supportive environment, allowing you to make the transition back into the acute hospital setting with confidence and competence.

WA Health requires that every nurse or midwife undertaking a refresher program demonstrates competency in medication calculation, manual handling, basic life support, shock advisory and fire and emergency prior to undertaking clinical practice. Education and support will be offered to assist applicants in gaining these mandatory competencies as part of the theory program.
