Returning to nursing or midwifery

Bringing nurses back into the workforce – who can apply?

Nurses and midwives can apply for BNBW if they meet the following criteria:

  • Previously been employed in an Australian hospital
  • Have not been employed as an RN, RM or EN for the 12 months prior to re-employment
  • Currently registered with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Western Australia (NMBWA)
  • Returned to work at a public hospital on or after 15 January 2008
  • Employed full-time or part-time (not casual) in a clinical hospital setting
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Have not received the BNBW bonus through previous employment within Australia
  • Effective 17 November 2008, applications are open to nurses working in community based health care and day surgery

Public hospitals declared eligible to receive the bonus are those that provide hospital treatment that includes part of an overnight stay.
