Bringing nurses back into the workforce – guidelines

Nurses / midwives

  • Applications are open from 15 January 2008 until 14 January 2013.
  • Individuals can only get the bonus once throughout the duration of the program.
  • Required to work at the public hospital that they have returned to for a period of 18 months to receive the 2 bonus payments.
  • A pro rata rate applies to nurses / midwives who return to work part-time.
  • Nurse / midwife able to transfer under this program but must be within the public hospital to receive bonus.
  • There must be no break in service to receive bonuses.
  • Unpaid leave will not contribute towards the 6 and 18 months qualifying periods.

Hospitals

  • Hospital can only claim the bonus for an employee once in the 5 year period.
  • Payment is made to hospitals biannually.
  • Hospitals are eligible for a cash bonus of $1000 for each nurse / midwife employed under this program.
  • If the nurse / midwife transfers hospital, bonus is not transferable.
