Nursing and midwifery in Western Australia

Returning to nursing or midwifery

Bringing nurses back into the workforce

Cash bonuses of up to $6,000 are provided to an allocated number of eligible nurses and midwives who return to work in a public hospital through this program. The bonus is divided over two payments made at 6 and 18 months of continuous employment. Funding will be offered on a pro rata basis and conditions apply.

Participating public hospitals are offered a bonus of up to $1000 pro rata per eligible nurse / midwife recruited. Again, funding will be offered on a pro rata basis and conditions apply.

This is a national program which aims to attract qualified nurses and midwives back into the workforce. The Australian government has committed $138.9 million over 5 years to bring 8,750 extra nurses back into the Australian health workforce to help reduce the nursing shortages in the hospital system.
